No-fault divorce solicitors Horsley
Since April 2022, couples can get divorced without one of them having to blame the other. Before no-fault divorce was introduced in 2020, someone filing for divorce who hadn't been separated for at least 2 years had to blame the other party for the breakdown of the marriage. They did this by citing fault, usually adultery or unreasonable behaviour. The Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020 removed fault or blame from the entire divorce process. Now, the petition requires only a statement that the marriage has broken down irretrievably, with no need for evidence to support it.
For separating couples, this means a much more straightforward divorce process. The parties can cooperate rather than act against each other, reducing stress, conflict, and legal costs.
