Since the divorce law changed in April 2022, it is no longer necessary to wait a minimum of two years to issue proceedings (if you did not wish to rely on “behaviour” or “adultery” to apply for an immediate divorce. The process does now take slightly longer, as there is a 20 week period between issuing your divorce application and applying for the conditional order (formerly known as the decree nisi) and then a further 6 weeks and 1 day until you can apply for the final order (formerly known as the decree absolute). This is the quickest timeframe in which a divorce can be obtained and will be dependent on both parties acting promptly where necessary.
